Christina Lake Fire Rescue provides fire protection and emergency services within Electoral Area C/Christina Lake as part of the Christina Lake Fire Protection Service. It is a composite fire department consisting of a Career Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief and a dedicated team of paid on call Captains, Lieutenants and Firefighters. The Department responds to a variety of emergency situations including fire suppression as the main mandate, as well as medical first responder emergencies, motor vehicle incidents, auto extrication and also responds to rescue situations on land, ice, and water. Christina Lake Fire Rescue is seeking candidates for our Work Experience Program (WEP 26). We are accepting applications from September 22, 2026 until the end of the business day October 22, 2026. The successful WEP firefighters will begin the program on November 18, 2026, with the exact end date to be determined.
Through the program, your responsibilities as a WEP firefighter will include but not be limited to:

• Fire Station & Equipment Maintenance
• Duty Shifts
Program Overview
• WEP firefighters will have the opportunity to refine their previously acquired NFPA 1001 skills through specialized training drills, regular training sessions, emergency response calls and examinations.
• WEP firefighters will acquire job experience by participating in specialized programs such as pre-incident planning, public education, shift work, regular fire hall duties and other volunteer training programs.
• WEP firefighters will train and become EMA certified as Medical First Responders Schedule 2. They will also receive training (both in-house, and accredited) in several other desirable areas, including technical rescue disciplines.
• WEP firefighters will become regular paid-on-call members of Christina Lake Fire Rescue and will be required to uphold the same standards and commitments. Trainees will receive the same hourly wage as the regular paid-on-call members.
• Christina Lake Fire Rescue will assist the WEP firefighters’ career search for Fire Department job postings and provide education such as interview and resume writing skills.
• Vacation time or personal leave can be made available upon request.
• Trainees will be required to make a 12-month commitment to the program.
WEP Members will...
• be involved in regular duty shifts;
• Assist in the creation/maintenance of pre-incident plans, public education programs, and participate in company inspections;
• participate in specialized training sessions to maintain and enhance their certification and skill levels;
• complete regular hall and equipment maintenance as an integral part of the program;
• respond to emergency calls as paid-on-call members of Christina Lake Fire Rescue;
• perform daily on-shift training in addition to weekly Wednesday evening training with the POC contingent.
WEP firefighters also spend many hours living and working together while also performing routine duties at the fire hall. For this reason, the ability to follow direction, work as a team, and get along well with others are essential skills for all WEP firefighters. You must also be able to assess situations, make decisions, and act on your own initiatives.
Required certifications, skills and abilities for this role:
• NFPA 1001 Level 1 and 2;
• NFPA 1072/472/470 - Hazmat Operations;
• Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License, or out of province equivalent, with air brake endorsement;
• Satisfactory driver’s abstract;
• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sectors;
• Medical Clearance (Doctor’s clearance or Certificate of fitness – CPAT, York, Brock, OFAI or equivalent);
• Three professional reference letters (Employment, volunteer experience etc., with current contact information; and
• Valid Passport for mutual aid response into Washington State
Desirable certifications, skills and abilities:
• First Responder, EMR, or Paramedic certificate/license
• Training/Certifications relevant to firefighting
• Class 3 BCDL or out-of-province equivalent

WEP Firefighters are employed as Paid On-Call Firefighters. The hourly rate of pay for 1001 qualified POC Firefighters is $26.65 per hour (2026 rates).
