Christina Lake Fire Rescue provides fire protection and emergency services within Electoral Area C/Christina Lake as part of the Christina Lake Fire Protection Service. It is a composite fire department consisting of a Fire Chief (F/T), Deputy Fire Chief (F/T), Assistant Chief (P/T) and a dedicated team of paid on call Captains, Lieutenants and Firefighters. The Department responds to a variety of emergency situations including fire suppression as the main mandate, as well as medical first responder emergencies, motor vehicle incidents, auto extrication and also responds to rescue situations on land, ice, and water. In 2025, the team will also welcome Work Experience Program recruits for the first time.
The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Fire Chief, Christina Lake Fire Rescue. Reporting to the Regional District’s General Manager of Operations, the Fire Chief is responsible for managing all aspects of the fire department, including administration, member recruitment and management, fire suppression, training and fire prevention activities. The Fire Chief oversees all members of Christina Lake Fire Rescue, including the Deputy Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, Paid On-Call Firefighters and Work Experience Program crew.
The ideal Fire Chief will be a forward thinker, providing strategic direction to develop and implement policies and actions to ensure the continuity of fire protection service in the Christina Lake area. The Fire Chief will also enjoy working collaboratively with Fire and Emergency Management staff across the RDKB, local community groups and mutual aid partners to ensure well-rounded, high-level service and protection of their community. As such, the ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal and leadership skills and excel at building effective working relationships with members, the general public, elected officials, Regional District staff and mutual aid partners.
The successful candidate will be required to participate in the on-call Duty Officer program and live within the Christina Lake Fire Protection area.
Required certifications, skills and abilities for this role:
- Post-secondary degree in business or public administration or a fire related discipline
- At least 5 years of satisfactory service as a Senior Fire Officer
- NFPA 1001 Level 2
- Fire Officer II
- EMA-FR
- Professional computer skills, including ability to produce reports and plans
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement; satisfactory driver’s abstract required
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
