The RDKB is currently seeking applications to fill a permanent, full-time Building and Plumbing Official position in Grand Forks, BC. This is a new, additional position joining our Grand Forks Building team to support ongoing demand for Building Inspection services throughout the Boundary region.

Reporting to the Manager of Building Inspection Services, the Building and Plumbing Official is responsible for providing a range of building and plumbing inspection services, including plan reviews and field inspections for compliance with applicable building and plumbing codes and relevant regulations. The Building and Plumbing Official is also responsible for processing building permit applications, assisting in administration and building bylaw enforcement, and providing technical information to the public.

To be considered for this opportunity, please be advised:

  • The preferred candidate will possess Level 3 qualifications from the Building Officials Association of BC (BOABC), Level 1 Plumbing Qualifications and a minimum of 5 years work experience in a local government environment.
  • Level 1 and 2 qualified Building Officials with previous local government work experience will also be considered for this position
  • Applicants with education, training and work experience equivalent to a technical degree or diploma in a related discipline such as engineering, civil or building technology may be considered for this position.
  • ACBOA or other equivalent Canadian building inspection certifications will be considered for this position

Applicants must also possess:

  • An interprovincial Trades Qualification in Carpentry or plumbing, or a diploma from a recognized technical institute in Building Technology, or equivalent
  • 4 years’ building design and construction experience
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • Satisfactory criminal record check

Position Information

Status:              Full Time

Office Hours:    Monday to Friday, 35-37.5 hours per week (winter/summer schedule)

Compensation: $44.26 - $50.34/hr (2024) dependent on level of certification
